Arizona is home to one of the 7 wonders of the natural world - The Grand Canyon. The canyon is huge and pictures do not do it justice. It is one of those places that your memory cannot correctly comprehend and you have to be standing there in order to fully appreciate the size. It is around 277 miles long, it varried from 4 miles wide to 18 miles wide, and at some points it is over a mile deep.
There are a number of ways to experience the Grand Canyon:
South Rim:
When most people think of the Grand Canyon they are picturing the South Rim. This is where most tourists go and it is the vantage point for most of the pictures you see of the canyon.
North Rim:
What most people don't realize is that the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is a completely different experience from the South Rim. The North Rim is several hundred feet higher in elevation and the setting and landscape is more forest with pine trees.
Hiking:
There are a number of trails around and down into the Grand Canyon. Some of these trails can be traveled by foot or by mule trains.
Camping:
A great experience is hiking to Havasupai Falls at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. There are several large waterfalls that make for great swimming and it is a great place to camp. Before You Go you do need to make reservations, possibly several months in advance.
