Ketchikan is a common stop on many cruises to Alaska. It is a fairly small town with around 8,000 residents and is mostly supported by tourism and fishing. There is a river that flows through the town where salmon are a common sight.
Ketchikan is very lush and it can actually be considered a rainforest because it gets over 150 inches/year of rainfall.
There is a great hike that starts in town and heads up to the peak of Deer Mountain where there are some spectacular views.
Other things to do include going fishing, kayaking, boating, or flying around for another look at the amazing landscape. You can even go snorkeling in Ketchikan, which sounds crazy but makes for a very unique experience.
